PAUL DOUGLAS MAJOR, MBA
PRESIDENT
Paul Douglas Major was born on July 19 1952 in New Providence, The Bahamas.
His early education started at St. Augustine's College and later attained his MBA from the University of Miami. He continued to invest in his education by studying at the Financial Institutions for Banking in New York, Adam Smith Institute in London and The Institute for International Development at Harvard University.
He is an esteemed member of the Florida Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma and also the National Honorary Business Scholastics Society. He has extensive training in countries such as the United States, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Central/South America. This training incorporates all facets of Commercial and Developmental Banking, covering Credit, Administration, Treasury, Marketing, Financial Control and Auditing.
He has served as the Co-Chairman of the Downtown Redevelopment and Container Port Relocation Committees. Director of Bahamas Electricity Corporation, Bahamasair, Inter-american Development Bank (IDB). The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Director of The Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation, The Bahamas Development Bank, Red Cross Society and Chamber of Commerce. He also served on The National Junkanoo Committee, the Privatization Committees for Batelco, the Clearing Banks Association, and the Bahamas Quality Council.
He is married to Janice Major nee Clarke and they have three children, Kurt, Kristina and Kristin. His hobbies include Reading, Tennis and Golf. Over the years he has developed for himself the reputation of “the man that gets things done”.
1969 – 1993: Employed with Citibank, N.A. Held a series of managerial positions enroute to becoming Vice President and General Manager in The Bahamas in 1987
1993 – 1997: Managed family-owned businesses – Jadoma Investments/Floral Fantasia Ltd.
1997 – 1998: General Manager of the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation
1998 – 1999: Managing Director of the Bahamas Development Bank
2000 – 2005: Managing Director of Bahamasair Holdings Limited
2006 – 2007: Consultant to The Ministry of Financial Services and Investments and The Ministry of The Environment.
2008 – Present: President of Major Consulting Ltd. With many Public and Private Sector Engagements.
Established since 2006 Major Consulting Limited has provided Business Consultancy Services and Financial Solutions to a broad variety of Public and Private Sector entities and high net worth individuals in The Bahamas, The Caribbean and The United States.
The company also does Bridge Financing and maintains a book of business that averages around $1,000,000.
Mr. Major holds a MBA with honors from the University of Miami and attended many Institutions of higher learning and specialized training abroad including the School of Banking –New York, Harvard and the Adam Smith Institute in London. He served as Citibank’s Vice President and General Manager from 1987 -1993 where he was able to covert a losing franchise to a $5 million a year profit center while growing the assets from $7 million to $120 million during that time. He is also a licensed realtor with the Bahamas Real Estate Association (BREA).
During 1993 – 1996, Mr. Major successfully expanded and diversified Jadoma Investments Ltd., his family owned Retail, Real Estate and Investment Business. During 1997, Mr. Major served as General Manager of The Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) where he developed a strategic direction and repositioned the Corporation to better serve Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s). In 1998 and 1999 he served as Managing Director of The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) during which time the Bank was totally restructured. That restructuring included transforming the Bank from a losing insolvent institution into a reputable, user friendly, profitable organization respected both locally and internationally which was able to source non- Government guaranteed funding.
During 2000 – 2005 he served as the Managing Director of Bahamasair, the National Flag Carrier where he was able to significantly reduce the losses (from a high of $32 Million down to $11 Million), improve the airline’s image, bring financial and operational integrity to the airline, expand the fleet and network and improve performance ratios across the business. Under his direction the Sabre Reservations and Revenue Management system was also implemented.
In 2006 Major Consulting Limited was formed which has provided Business Consultancy Services and Financial Solutions to a broad variety of Public and Private Sector entities and high net worth individuals in The Bahamas, The Caribbean and The United States.
